Our Philosophy
Welcome to ElysianField, the modern canine version of that ancient mythological
Paradise.....My name is Margaret. About 11 years ago I fell in love with my first terrier, Isis a jack
russell. Over the next few years as I found out more about jacks and their pure bred cousins the Parson Russell, I decided I wanted to breed pure bred dogs. Isis was spayed and I began breeding and showing Parson's. My husband Ron has always loved animals and he quickly became as fond of them as myself. Our joint hobby was born, about the time our two children "left the nest."
William has added his love of Standard Schnauzers to our kennel and he has four,
three females and a lad.
Situated in beautiful
Prince
Edward
County in southeastern
Ontario, we support full compliance with the new regulations in effect in this municipality regarding the operation of a kennel. These regulations raise the bar in terms of providing first rate accommodations for our companions. We erected a state of the art building which has been used by other breeders as a template for their own kennels. We are licensed in Prince Edward County as a Breeding/Show kennel and are inspected and re-licensed yearly.
We are the only parson kennel in our area to have those high standards. Our kennel name is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. We breed pure bred Parson Russell Terriers, from
established bloodlines, that we have imported from England, Belgium and the USA.
William breeds pure bred Standard Schnauzers from two
top kennels in the USA, Holly Hill Farm in KY and
Ron and I are co-founders of the Assoc. Parson Russell Terrier Fanciers, the sponsoring club for CKC recognition of the Parson. We are working diligently with the other 14 breeds towards that goal, which should see fruition in the
early fall of '06.
The Parson's I breed are first and foremost bred for temperament. They are not "hard" terriers and they are not bred to hunt. (That is not to say that chipmunks and squirrels will not go down to the lightening quick reflexes of our terriers.) They are show dogs, and companion dogs. Their work now is in the show ring, or the agility ring or in the obedience ring. They excel at flyball, Frisbee and racing. They have loving temperaments but they are still terriers. They think they are big dogs, and it has been said they are big dogs in small bodies. Parsons still have an abundance of energy, but they will wind down at the end of the day. It is not unusual for Ron and I to sit and watch TV with Buddy, the Golden Retriever, with four or five terriers at our feet, or lounging in the "dog" chairs.
At ElysianField we believe in a testing program for breeding stock that includes
CERF
and
BAER
tests for eyesight and hearing. Additionally, we believe it important to have all our breeding terriers' genetic DNA profile registered. We are in step with many top breeders worldwide who adhere to these concepts and are intent on being in the front ranks of those setting the standard for Parson Russell Terrier breeders.
When you purchase an ElysianField puppy it has been micro-chipped for permanent identification. Your paperwork will include an AKC registration form. This is your proof that you have received a pure bred, kennel club registered, Parson Russell Terrier. It will have the shots appropriate to the age of the terrier, with a full guarantee for temperament and life long guarantee against genetic defects, that would affect the quality or expected life span of your terrier. I also offer life long after purchase support. Please see our kennel brochure for full details.
I hope you enjoy your visit, and please sign the guest book before you leave. If you would like further information, you can drop me an e-mail at the link at the bottom of this page.
